Top 10 MLB Hitters: Volume 4, 8/17 – 8/23

MLB Hitters

Which MLB Hitters in the fourth full week of baseball? Using our system, here’s who we think are the Top 10 hitters in MLB.

We’ve officially hit the halfway point of the season. The postseason picture is coming into focus and the best players are separating themselves from the rest of the league. So, today, we gather here to identify who those players are, at least the offensive ones.

Now, after revealing the Top 10 MLB Hitters in the third volume of our ranking, we’re ready to deliver volume 4 for the dates August 17 – August 23. As stated previously, we utilized a 10-point rubric using five essential advanced stats that can be found on FanGraphs: OPS, wRAA, wOBA, wRC+, and WPA.

Utilizing a 10-point system across these stats and using only qualified players, we collected data for 191 players. Then, to determine the ranking, we calculated the range for each data point.

  • OPS: 1.896 – 0.184 = 1.712
  • wRAA: 11.8 – -5.4 = 17.2
  • wOBA: 0.758 – 0.088 = 0.67
  • wRC+: 402 – -52 = 454
  • WPA: 1.3 – -0.95 = 2.25

After calculating the range for each data set, we determined the value for each point across all five stats with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the greatest. Here’s a visual representation of our calculations:
