TOP 10 MLB HITTERS: VOLUME 2, 8/10 – 8/16

Which MLB Hitters in the third full week of baseball? Using our system, here’s who we think are the Top 10 hitters in MLB.

At this point in the shortened season, a number of teams are approaching the midway point of the season. After revealing the Top 10 MLB Hitters in the second volume of our ranking, we’re ready to deliver volume two for the dates August 10 – August 16. As stated previously, we utilized a 10-point rubric using five essential advanced stats that can be found on FanGraphs: OPS, wRAA, wOBA, wRC+, and WPA.

Utilizing a 10-point system across these stats and using only qualified players, we collected data for 162 players. Then, to determine the ranking, we calculated the range for each data point.

  • OPS: 1.747 – 0.206 = 1.541
  • wRAA: 8.2 – -3.6 = 11.8
  • wOBA: 0.694 – 0.113 = 0.581
  • wRC+: 349 – -32 = 381
  • WPA: 1.13 – -0.61 = 1.74

After calculating the range for each data set, we determined the value for each point across all five stats with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the greatest. Here’s a visual representation of our calculations:
