The 2019 NBA Finals: The Drake Saga (EPISODE #95)

This 2019 NBA Finals was supposed to examine whether the Toronto Raptors could stop the Golden State Warriors. However, now It has turned into a battle between the Warriors and acclaimed rapper Drake.

Let’s take a moment to break down what we’re now calling “The Drake Saga.” The lure of this NBA Finals was originally focused on whether Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors could successfully defeat a Golden State Warriors team that has won three championships in the last four years. Now, it has turned into a battle of words and unspoken messages on behalf of both the organization and the rapper.

It all started when Drake wore a throwback Raptors jersey of Dell Curry to game 1 of the NBA Finals. This was to serve as an unspoken message to 2x MVP Stephen Curry to remember where he came from. Then, after the Raptors defeated the Warriors in game 1, the 4x Grammy Award winner decided to call Draymond Green “Trash,” in what some called a postgame scuffle.

Then, In game 2 of the NBA Finals Drake wore a hoodie with Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone with the word “Kevin?!?!” plastered on the back, referring to Kevin Durant who hasn’t played in this series. After the game, KD and Klay Thompson waited for the rapper and exchanged some words.

We can make out the following, but feel free to listen to the entire segment (1:02:23) on the podcast: “See you in the Bay, Aubrey,” Clay Thompson said, using Drake’s birth name. “You weren’t talking tonight, were you?… With your bum ass… That was light work, too,” he said.
