Five Horror Movies We Absolutely Love to Watch

Five Horror Movies We Absolutely Love to Watch
A Nightmare on Elm Street | New Line Cinema

This Halloween, don’t spend all your money on the latest scary flop at the box office. Settle in at home with these FIVE horror movies you’re sure to love.

Before we move forward, let’s be clear about something: this is not a list of the best horror movies ever made. It is, however, a curated shortlist of five phenomenal movies to get you in the Halloween mood.  One movie for each day up until October 31.

To compile it, a few things went into consideration.

  1. Scare Factor: This one’s easy. Just how scary is this movie?
  2. Staying Power: Years after being released, does the film still hold up?
  3. Accessibility: Given that we’re simply just fans (like you), are these films easily accessible?

So, without further ado, let’s jump right into the NUMBER FIVE ranked horror movie.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (#5)

‘Nightmare’ is arguably the scariest movie of all time. That’s because it involves something we have little control over, our dreams.

Released in 1984, Wes Craven‘s ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ was welcomed to decent reviews. According to the Washington Post:

“For such a low-budget movie, Nightmare on Elm Street is extraordinarily polished. The script is consistently witty, the camera work (by cinematographer Jacques Haitkin) crisp and expressive.”

After low-budget flops-turned-successes like ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ and ‘Friday the 13th’ essentially started this new crop of horror films, ‘Nightmare’ managed to perfect them. It pairs together two frightening concepts – (1) a child murderer seeking revenge by (2) invading the dreams of the teens whose parents are responsible for his brutal death – masterfully.

Is there anything more frightening than realizing that the nightmares you’re having may not be nightmares after all? That’s what this film executes to successfully. It literally succeeds at making you think twice before you go to sleep.

What’s more, it launched the career of a young movie star to be in Johnny Depp, who can credit ‘Nightmare’ as his first film credit.

Watch this film first before proceeding to the next and hopefully, you’ll be sleeping better by the time the number one ranked film comes along. For now, let’s take a look at…THE #4 RANKED HORROR MOVIE.
