After ‘No Time to Die’, Daniel Craig is done with James Bond. This has left some wanting a female 007. Here are 5 badass women who would rock the series back to life.
The James Bond franchise has had a long, fulfilling life. With Daniel Craig taking the reins for five films, beginning with ‘Casino Royale‘ and ending with the upcoming ‘No Time to Die‘, there is no better time to turn the role over to someone new. This has left many wondering who the next Bond will be. Will it be a traditional casting? Perhaps the first black Bond? How about a female 007?
If you’re like me, then you’re a fan of completely blowing something up and putting it back together in your own original way. Originality breeds boldness and I can think of nothing bolder than a badass woman taking over the franchise.
With that said, we live in an age where anybody can be an action star. Scarlett Johansson has killed as Black Widow in the Marvel Universe; I can think of no one better than Gal Gadot to play Wonder Woman; and Jennifer Lawrence absolutely owned the screen in ‘The Hunger Games’ franchise, as Mystique in the X-Men movies, and as a Russian intelligence officer in ‘Red Sparrow’.
So, who can take on this epic franchise and elevate it, as Craig did? Here are five dope women we wouldn’t mind seeing drink a dry martini, shaken, not stirred.
The Next Female 007… Likely
If you’ve already watched the trailer for ‘No Time to Die’, then you have already met Nomi, a female M16 played by Lashana Lynch who appears to work (not-so) hand in hand with Daniel Craig’s James Bond. She’s black, she’s beautiful, and, yes, she’s badass.
Ms. Lynch was primarily a TV actress in Britain before taking a turn as Maria Rambeau in ‘Captain Marvel‘. Now, as a central character in ‘No Time to Die’ she appears to be ready to take the center stage. Now, no announcement has been made as to whether she will be the next 007, but the trailer sure teases the heck out of it.
If Lynch doesn’t get the part, however, there is one actress who I believe would do the franchise proud.
The Ideal Option
Emily Blunt is one of those rare actors that can completely own the screen in any movie. She has the acting chops of an A+ actor while at the same time not gaining the recognition for it… yet. Unlike many of our beloved stars, Blunt isn’t a household name. It seems that aside from being married to John Krasinski (Jim from ‘The Office’), there’s very little we know about Ms. Blunt. In this characteristic, she is very much like Daniel Craig.
Now, considering her filmography, we know she can handle action (‘Edge of Tomorrow‘), she can play a torn law enforcement agent (‘Sicario‘), and she can single-handedly carry a movie (‘The Girl on the Train‘). For these reasons, I’d throw my hat in the ring for Blunt any day.
Traditional, Yet Bold
Charlize Theron, like Emily Blunt, fills the role quite perfectly. Not only is she an Oscar-winning actor, but she’s also pretty damn bad. See ‘Atomic Blonde‘ for reference. In that movie, Theron did all her own stunts, including the one-shot stairwell fight scene depicted above. Enough said.
The Dream Female 007
This one is a long shot, but for us Dominicanos, this would be absolutely awesome. Zoe Saldana has already established herself as a legitimate action star in ‘Avatar‘, ‘Colombiana‘, ‘Star Trek‘, and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘. That’s precisely why she wouldn’t work as the inaugural female 007. She’s just attached to far too many well-known franchises, people will have a hard time separating her from them.
The Long Shot
We’ve seen her in action films like ‘V for Vendetta’ and wield a gun like a boss in ‘Annihilation’; she’s owned the screen in films like ‘Black Swan‘ and ‘Jackie‘; but for some reason, I just don’t see this ever happening for Natalie Portman. Why? Well, because she’s set to play the next Thor in phase 4 of the Marvel Comics Universe.
Who would you choose to be the first female 007?
