Fantasy Football DREAMERS Players to avoid in Week 5.
QUARTERBACK – DAK PRESCOTT vs GREEN BAY
Usually Dak at home is positive, but this week there are a few issues that concern me. First is the health status of Left Tackle Tyron Smith. The news was positive long term for Smith, but it’s unlikely he will play against Green Bay.
The next concern is the health of Dak’s wide receivers. Michael Gallup is progressing but is still tracking as inactive. Amari Cooper will play Sunday but a report concerning his foot has left some wondering if he is once again playing at less than 100% (which was never a good thing in Oakland).
All of these issues and the fact that the Packers defense appears to be much more stout this year have led me to other options this week at QB.
RUNNING BACK – JORDAN HOWARD vs NEW YORK JETS
Jordan Howard showed a big burst last Thursday against the Packers in Green Bay. He scored 3 total touchdowns in the game and cemented himself as one of the hottest waiver adds in week 5.
Well, I’m going to have to be the one who throws water on the flames. I always feel that Thursday night performances should be appreciated, but taken with a grain of salt. Defenses have a tough time recovering on such a short turnaround and that can lead to flukey outcomes.
The likely hood of Howard repeating a 30 fantasy point performance this year is pretty minimal. I would contact your Miles Sanders owner right now and try to get a star table WR for Howard now while he still has value.
WIDE RECEIVER – STERLING SHEPARD vs MINNESOTA
Sterling Shepard has been one of the beneficiaries of the quarterback change in New York. He has been working primarily out of the slot and eating up a large target share.
The suspension of Golden Tate will end this week and that means he will inherit the slot role for the Giants. That pushes Shepard to the outside and means he will be covered by Xavier Rhodes. I think it’s very likely that Shepard’s target share will take a big nosedive this week and that means you should look for better options.
