The idea behind the EISA Awards is that media around the world reviewing products can identify the best products together. Because every award is based on an election and every member is only allowed to vote after they have thoroughly tested the device, the EISA Awards are really distinctive. An award-winning product is truly a proven reference in its class. Manufacturers cannot influence the process, although they can, for example, have devices that have not yet been launched under embargo tested. The EISA Awards are traditionally divided into different categories, awarded by expert groups that are populated by experts in their field. FWD Magazine has been a member of three of those groups for over a decade: Home Theater Audio (everything surround), Home Theater Video (TVs, projectors, and other imaging products), and Hi-Fi. The latter group looks at all possible audio devices that serve music in stereo, from turntables to loudspeakers, and is coordinated by FWD Magazine editor-in-chief Jamie Biesemans. Because the emphasis is on new products, the EISA Awards are also a good indicator. of what’s going on. You not only discover what good products are, but also which ones really bring something new. This year, for example, we see an award for a mini LED TV for the first time. There is also a strong trend in the audio world to focus on technically sophisticated active speakers, and products of this kind will also be very much present in 2022. Including System Audio, SVS, Paradigm and of course KEF with its remarkable LS60 Wireless . The vinyl revival is far from over either – this year’s awards show that there is even a rising demand for a ‘better’ record player. This year, some award categories are also noticeably absent. For example, there are far fewer speaker awards. This is due to parts shortages and supply problems, which, as in 2020 and 2021, have made it difficult for some manufacturers to launch new products. Or maybe a product was presented, but it barely made it to the market – so not enough EISA members have been able to test it. new TV, soundbar, speaker, turntable or other AV product.
