Bruce Willis in a scene from “Death Wish”

The family of star Bruce Willis, 67, announced on Wednesday, 30, that the actor will retire after being diagnosed with aphasia. The disease is a language disorder caused by brain damage that affects a person’s ability to communicate. Among the most common causes are stroke, brain tumors, traumatic brain injury and encephalitis. In an emotional post published on Instagram by Rumer Willis, the actor’s daughter with fellow actress Demi Moore, the family explained that they are living a challenging time. “We are going through this as a strong family unit and wanted to let Bruce’s fans know because we know how much he means to you as well as you mean to him,” the statement reads. Known for explosive action movies, Bruce Willis’ career is extensive. The actor began playing uncredited roles in the early 1980s in films like Sidney Lumet’s The Verdict. But Hollywood only began to pay more attention to Willis thanks to his starring role in the series The Cat and the Mouse and the movie Die Hard, which has an incredible four sequels and gave the star his first major franchise.
