The film “O Sangue”, by Portuguese director Pedro Costa, will be shown in a restored version during the film festivals in Venice (Italy) and New York (USA), the production company OPTEC Filmes revealed today. ” is included in the Venice Critics Week, the festival’s parallel program, where Pedro Costa made the world premiere of his first fiction feature film, in 1989.The Venice Film Festival will run from August 31 to September 10 and the schedule will be announced on Tuesday. In the United States, Pedro Costa’s film will be shown at the 60th New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center from September 30 to October 16. The restored version of ” O Sangue” is the result of a work of digitization of the original negative of the film, in black and white, preserved in the Cinemateca Portuguesa.”O Sangue”, about two brothers who swear to keep a secret about their father, is starring Pedro Hestnes, Nuno Ferreira , Inês de Medeiros, Luís Miguel Cintra and C anto e Castro, among others. The cinematography is by Martin Schafer, with additional photography from two important names in Portuguese cinema: Elso Roque and Acácio Almeida. Pedro Costa has an award-winning cinematographic career, with most of his films debuting at international festivals. Filmography includes, for example, “Casa de Lava” (1994), screened at Cannes, “Bones” (1997), awarded in Venice, “In Vanda’s Room” (2000), “Cavalo Dinheiro” (2014) and “Vitalina Varela” (2019), all distinguished in Locarno.
