Locke and Key was a huge hit for Netflix when it was released in February 2020. It didn’t take the streaming platform long to renew it and soon Season 2 was making its way to our television screens. In its first four weeks on Netflix, the second season amassed 143 million hours watched globally as fans filled their boots with the strange goings-on in the Locke family. The fantasy horror drama was developed by Carlton Cuse, Meredith Averill, and Aron Eli Coleite and is based on the comic-book series of the same name by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez. But if you haven’t already watched the first and second season, here’s a quick summary of what happened…

Locke and Key Season 1 Recap

When Rendell Locke is murdered at the hands of former student Sam Lesser, his wife Nina decides to move with her three children, Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode. They go from Seattle to Matheson, Massachusetts, and decide to live in Rendell’s family home, ‘Keyhouse’. Here the children soon discover a number of mysterious keys throughout the house that can be used to unlock various doors in magical ways. But with the keys and the magic comes a demonic entity, known as Dodge, that is also searching for the keys for its own evil purposes. We left Locke and Key Season 1 on a bit of a cliffhanger as Dodge took possession of both the Shadow Key and the Crown of Shadows. Needing just the Omega Key, Dodge’s plans are ruined when Bode destroys his shadow using the Matchstick Key. Tyler and Kinsey send her back through the Black Door and everyone thinks their troubles are over as the family decides to stay in Matheson. But what Kinsey doesn’t know is that when she starts dating Gabe, he is another form of Dodge! Dodge had used the Identity Key to change Ellie’s form into Dodge’s, and Ellie was the one who was thrown through the Black Door. It was all very exciting and a great place to start Season 2 of the show.

Locke and Key Season 2 Recap

Another season and another set of mysterious keys, most of which Gaba (because he’s a Dodge) is trying to get his hands on. And if he can’t find them then he’ll try and make them! But his plan doesn’t go well as the others free Erin, try to restore Duncan’s memories, discover that Ellie was sent through the Black Door and that maybe Gabe isn’t who they think he is. And once again, just when all of our favorite key hunters think that they have solved the final crisis, there’s another cliffhanger. This time Eden recovers the Echo Key from Gabe’s dorm room and uses it to summon Gideon, who then throws Eden down the well and escapes using the Anywhere Key. So what will happen in Locke and Key season 3??

Locke and Key Season 3 Release Date

The good news is that Netflix renewed Locke and Key for season 3. The bad news is that it is the final season, as planned by the creators. Netflix has announced that the third season is due to premiere on August 10, 2022.

Locke and Key Season 3 – What Will Happen?

Unsurprisingly, the Locke family uncovers more magic within Keyhouse in season 3. However, there is a new threat, the most dangerous one yet, and it looms in Matheson with plans of his own for the keys. We’re guessing that Gideon may have a big role to play in the third season. But how will it all end for the Locke family?? Can they finally collect all of the guys and put an end to the demons? Only time will tell.

How Many Seasons Of Locke and Key Are On Netflix?

There are currently two seasons of Locke and Key available on Netflix. The third and final season will air on August 10th 2022. Each season has 10 episodes and each episode is around 45 minutes long. So right now you can watch 20 episodes of the hit show.

Why Can’t Dodge Take Keys From The Locks?

One of the main plot lines in Locke and Key is trying to get as many of the magical keys as possible. In a true battle of good vs evil, it would be too easy if Dodge could just take the keys. And the reason they cannot is because the keys are loyal to the Lockes.
That means the Dodge can’t take them without permission.
