What’s On Netflix had learned from a source that the streaming service had unofficially already renewed the series for a third season well before July 31, the date on which season 2 reached the platform. Also according to the site, this premature renewal was due to a health emergency.
The order for a season 3 for The Umbrella Academy given so early would have allowed the team to start working on pre-production from home already, thus saving time and being ready to start work once the green light to get back on the track came. set. On 10 November 2020, then, the official confirmation from the service arrived: the TV series has been renewed.
As reiterated several times, there is plenty of material on which to base season 3 of The Umbrella Academy. In fact, Gerard Way, speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, had stated right from the start that he had in mind the plot for another five volumes, bringing the comic series to have eight in all.

The Umbrella Academy 3 Season Release Date

With one of the briefcases with which the agents had reached Sissy’s farm, the place of the final confrontation, the brothers teleported in 2019, exactly one day after the apocalypse, which never happened. Arriving directly at The Umbrella Academy, however, they immediately realize that something is wrong: Ben is still alive, he is a little boy and according to Sir Reginald Hargreeves the building is known as Sparrow Academy.
It is difficult to say today what could happen in season 3 of The Umbrella Academy, starting from this incipit. We know that new characters will be introduced and that we will find ourselves in another timeline. Probably the brothers will try to understand what caused this radical change. Both Elliot Page and Emmy Raver-Lampman said in a video shared on social media by Netflix that they were often surprised when reading the script.
