Fans of medieval series may have noticed some similarities between Vikings and The Last Kingdom. But is there really a link between the two achievements?

FANS BID FAREWELL TO THE VIKINGS SERIES

Since 2013, Vikings has been delighting viewers on the small screen. But after 6 seasons and nearly 90 episodes, it is now time to say goodbye to the creation of Michael Hirst.

Indeed, all good things come to an end and the adventure of the Scandinavian warriors has gone on long enough. For more than 5 years, the history of Ragnar Lothbrok’s family will have kept fans in suspense.

And this, despite the scenes of extreme violence that have multiplied throughout the series. Remember the blood eagle ceremony, Lagertha’s revenge against Sigvards or the assassination of Ivar’s bodyguard.

So many deaths which marked Vikings and which will have, more than once, disgusted the most sensitive aficionados. These moments are nevertheless essential in order to retrace with realism the life of this person of conquerors.

At the end of the last season, Bjorn succumbed to his injuries. Ivar, for his part, also passed the weapon to the left. The two most emblematic characters of the show, therefore, left the series with honour.

But do not panic! The warriors’ adventures shouldn’t end there. Indeed, a spin-off is currently in preparation. With Valhalla, you will therefore have the opportunity to reconnect with the Scandinavian people.

And if you don’t have the patience to wait, know that another medieval creation is also available on Netflix. It is then The Last Kingdom.

TWO STRANGELY SIMILAR SERIES

According to some fans, the line is thin between Vikings and The Last Kingdom. According to some, the two series are even closely linked. While Michael Hirst’s creation follows the Lothbrok Clan Crusades between the 5th and 10th centuries, Chrissy Skinns’ creation instead focuses on the character of Uhtred of Bebbanburg, played by Alexander Dreymon.

This last realization, based during the 9th century, is moreover inspired by a series of novels. Indeed, it takes again the story of the Saxon Chronicles of Bernard Cornwell.

So far, the two achievements seem very different. However, a similarity sets fire to the powder. And this from the start. Eh yes! Ragnar is indeed present in both stories.

Incarnated by Travis Fimmel on one side and Tobias Santelmann on the other, the characters are not all the same analogues.

Moreover, they are not the only ones with the same first name. Ubbe is also one of the main protagonists of Vikings and The Last Kingdom.

The only difference is that his name is spelled Ubba in the Netflix series. He thus slips into the shoes of one of the most powerful warlords. So the connection is not that obvious. Notably, because the show broadcast on the History channel is based on real events while the other is 100% fiction.
