Netflix’s violent historical epic, The Last Kingdom is otherwise known as Antoine Griezmann and Dembélé’s favorite series is based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell. The highly animated and eventful series is remarkable for a reason. The death toll increases with each episode. You start a season and you have no idea who is going to die next. With so many central characters dead in previous releases or having reached the end of their arc in Season 4. Fans are wondering if there are enough people left to headline a possible Season 5 of The Last. Kingdom on Netflix. Here’s all we know.
WHAT IS THE RELEASE DATE OF SEASON 5 OF THE LAST KINGDOM?
Season 4 of The Last Kingdom was released on April 26, 2020, on Netflix in all of its 10 episodes. As for Season 5 of The Last Kingdom, Netflix has yet to confirm anything. However, we already know that the series is loosely based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Storie. The latter includes 12 books, with a 13th due out in October 2020. Seasons 1 through 4 covers the events of the first eight books. Much remains to be covered in the Uhtred saga.
Even lead star Alexander Dreymon had previously expressed his willingness to feature in the series if it continues in the future. Additionally, the series’ huge fanbase has led to increased interest in the original source material. So much so that the books have been renamed The Last Kingdom.
All factors taken into account, Netflix is unlikely to end the series. News of the renewal is expected to be released in the coming months. Regarding the release of season 5 of The Last Kingdom. We could have a Netflix release date around early 2022.
WHAT COULD THE STORY BE ABOUT FOR THE SEQUEL TO THE LAST KINGDOM?
In Season 3, King Alfred finally dies after succumbing to his illness. Alfred’s nephew, Aethelwold, is killed by Uhtred. Uhtred’s sister, Thyra, also dies after her house is burnt down. Uhtred’s ally, the witch Skade, also bids him farewell.
Season 4 of The Last Kingdom takes off just after the events of the end of Season 3, following Alfred’s death. Chaos reigns throughout the kingdom. New alliances are made and old ones are broken. Uhtred thinks it’s a good time to declare war on his uncle Aelfric and take back his ancestral home, Bebbanburg. However, Uhtred ends up realizing that he should follow Alfred’s dream of bringing everyone together in one realm. He finally takes a call and decides to get into politics. Season 5 of The Last Kingdom should continue the journey Uhtred from here and follow him in his many crusades.
