12/10/2019 Headlines: Golden Globe Nominees, MLB Hot Stove, and more!

Today’s headlines feature the release of two more anticipated film trailers, the announcement of Golden Globe nominees, and baseball’s hot stove is heating up.

We begin the day’s headlines with the nominees for the 77th Golden Globes which were finally announced yesterday. The ceremony is set to take place on January 5, 2020 and will be hosted by Ricky Gervais.

Of the nominees, streaming services are dominating especially in the area of films where ‘Marriage Story’ and ‘The Irishman’ drew a combined 11 nominations. Besides that, Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood’ tied with ‘Marriage Story’ for the most nominations with six.

Here’s a full list of nominees

Strasburg Stays in D.C.

We continue with the biggest story in the world of baseball with the announcement that the Washington Nationals and Stephen Strasburg agreed to a 7-year, $245M deal. It is the richest contract for a pitcher in baseball history, paying Strasburg $35M AAV.

Other details about the deal emerged throughout the day, including:

  • that the deal includes a full no-trade clause,
  • $80M of it is deferred,
  • and is incentive laden.

Twin Film Trailers Leaves Us Salivating

Finally, we conclude the day’s headlines with the release of two highly anticipated film trailers. First, we got our first look at ‘Wonder Woman 1984‘. Though the plot is unknown, the film literally takes us back to the 1980s – music and all – and features Kristen Wiig who will play Cheetah, a classic Wonder Woman villain.

Then, there was the ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife‘ trailer which looks absolutely amazing. Unlike the female reboot, this film looks to pick up 30-years after the real Ghostbusters (Egon Spengler, Peter Venkman, Janine Melnitz, Winston Zeddemore, Ray Stantz, and Slimer) and has a bit of a ‘Stranger Things’ vibe.

The film stars Paul Rudd – who seems to be in everything these days – and, according to IMDB, will feature the original cast. I don’t know about you, but i’m pumped.
