ALCS Game 1 Reaction

October 14, 2018

After only 1 game against the Houston Astros, it’s already looking like a must win for the Redsox in Game 2.  Their savior? None other than David Price. Not to mention the NLCS is shaping up to be a classic as the Brewers and Dodgers are tied at 1-1.  Both games close til the very end. Game 1 in the ALCS was interesting and left us with a lot of questions, mainly about Chris Sale and his health.  With Price’s struggles in the playoffs and the possibility of falling to Houston 0-2 at home, this really is “David” vs Goliath. In this episode we also touch on a few Yankees topics such as Didi Gregorius and players they should acquire in the near future.

“Ninety Percent Mental” with Bob Tewksbury

October 10 , 2018

Bob Tewksbury was drafted by the Yankees in the 19th round back in 1981. In his 13 years in MLB, he played for NYY, CHC, STL, TEX, SDP, and MIN. He has a lifetime 110-102 record, 3.92 ERA, and led MLB 2x in BB/9. He is notoriously known for being a cerebral pitcher. He got by with his pinpoint control and by trusting his fielders behind him. In 1992, at age 31, Tewks was selected to the ASG and placed 3rd in the Cy Young voting. He was most recently a mental skills coach for the San Francisco Giants. Before that he worked for the Boston Red Sox.

Today, we talk to Tewks about his newest book “Ninety Percent Mental” where he explores the psychology behind baseball. We talk about how a technique called mental imagery and strategic thinking can maximize performance. He breaks down how a pitcher’s strategy changes throughout a game. Also, we explore how Tewks uses these techniques with MLB superstars like Jon Lester, Andrew Miller, Anthony Rizzo, and Rich Hill.

“Ninety Percent Mental” is available in all bookstores. If you sign up for a free trial with Audible, you can secure the audio version of this book absolutely free! Just go to audibletrial.com/welcometotheshow to get your free copy and a 30-day free tial.

Next Stop: Championship Series

October 10, 2018

And then there were 4.  The division series is officially over for both leagues we are now in championship territory.  For the most part, everything has turned out as expected. It’s actually been a pretty boring postseason (except for the redsox and yankees fans).  Teams like the Braves, Rockies, and Indians seemed highly unmatched against their opponents.

As for the Yankees, after stealing a game at Fenway they could not capitalize at home or even force a game 5.  Out of all the matchups this postseason, these games kept you interested for the most part and it never seemed like either team would run away with it.  On this episode we try and make sense of the last two days and give our predictions for the championship series.
